From the beginning of this course I never really understood the effects biases play in society and with families. Sometimes it is hard to put the biases we may possess to side especially if it was embedded into us as children but for educators this is vital. The course readings and media clips showed me the importance that communication, understanding, and knowledge play in the creation of building a reciprocal relationship with families. Because there are many students who come from varying cultures and have different perspectives and beliefs it is important for teachers to have knowledge of their culture and their family. Continue to learn about yourself, about the people and about the children and families you teach (Laureate Education, 2013).
