Bullying has been a risen issue in today’s society and is widespread and ranges within age groups. Bullying is a serious issue not only in schools but in homes as well as the communities. Often seen as “part of growing up”, bullying sometimes goes overlooked, unnoticed and unreported. All parties involved whether victim, bully, or bystanders are affected by it socially, emotionally, academically, and physically which can be detrimental in their learning and how they succeed in the classroom.
Bullying is more than just physical, it has taken many different forms. How can we as a society put an end to this bullying epidemic? The first step in preventing bullying is to know and understand the different forms of bullying.
Forms of Bullying
1. Physical bullying includes any physical contact that may cause harm or injure a person
(i.e. hitting, punching, kicking)
2. Verbal bullying is name calling, making remarks that are offensive to ones
religion, gender, ethnicity, socioeconomic status.
3. Indirect bullying includes spreading rumors or stories about someone.
4. Cyber bullying is done by sending text messages, pictures, or information
using electronic media that is degrading to another person.
