Three professional goals to help me become a more effective practitioner are:
Goal 1: Become more knowledgeable with policies and systems within the field of education- Education is vastly changing and children come in the classroom with a variety of learning styles, interests, and varying levels of readiness. New findings in education show a decrease within learning gaps and barriers as well as an increase in student achievement. Knowing more about early social and emotional, cognitive, physical, and academic competencies enables young children to develop and learn to their full potential. Knowing these competencies is the key when it comes to determining curriculum content.
Goal 2: Become a more active member in the field of education- Teachers who have studied how young children learn and develop and effective ways of teaching them are more likely to have knowledge about what is best for students. Teachers are the ones who are in the classroom every day with children and have a better insight on their capabilities, strengths and weaknesses, interest, background, and experiences. Teachers possess the knowledge needed when it comes to the decision making of children’s learning.
Goal 3: Develop and incorporate effective developmentally appropriate practices for children- Due to the varying learning abilities, disabilities, and levels of readiness, it is important to reach every child. Meeting children where they are and developing lessons that are tailored to their learning ability is important for their success in school as well as their ability to an active member in the classroom.
